Fields to compare offer letters and monthly in-hand salary.
Salary breakup generator
Generate a simple annual breakup from CTC assumptions.
Capture Earnings
Basic, HRA, special allowance, bonus, reimbursements and joining bonus should be separated.
Mark whether each item is monthly, annual, fixed or variable.
Useful columns are component, monthly amount, annual amount, fixed or variable, taxable or partly exempt, and paid in cash or not. Fill them from the offer letter's annexure, not the headline CTC.
Capture Deductions
Employee PF, professional tax, income tax, insurance and voluntary deductions affect cash salary.
Employer PF and gratuity are part of CTC but may not be monthly cash.
Note the PF base. Contributions are 12% of basic plus DA, and statutory PF applies to wages up to ₹25,000 a month from 17 September 2026. If an employer caps PF at the ceiling, each share is ₹3,000 a month; if it contributes on full basic, PF can be much larger and take-home lower.
Professional tax depends on the state, so check the payslip or the state's rules. The site's calculators use ₹2,400 a year as an editable default.
Worked Comparison
Offer A is ₹18 lakh CTC with a ₹2 lakh target bonus. Offer B is ₹17 lakh CTC with a ₹50,000 bonus. Assume basic at 40% of CTC, PF capped at ₹36,000 a year from each side, and a gratuity provision of about 4.81% of basic.
Offer A's fixed cash is ₹18 lakh minus the ₹2 lakh bonus, ₹36,000 employer PF and ₹34,615 gratuity, or about ₹15.29 lakh. Offer B's is ₹17 lakh minus ₹50,000, ₹36,000 and ₹32,692, or about ₹15.81 lakh. The lower CTC pays about ₹52,000 more in guaranteed cash a year, unless Offer A's bonus is reliably paid in full.
Compare Offers
Compare monthly take-home, fixed annual cash and long-term benefits separately.
Long-term benefits include employer PF, gratuity after five years, insurance cover and any employer NPS contribution. They matter, but they don't pay this month's rent.
Fields Worth Adding
Add rows for notice period, bonus payout month, PF base (capped or full basic), health cover for parents, and any clawback period on a joining bonus. These don't change the CTC figure but often decide which offer is better.
Keep using the template for each appraisal letter, so you can see how the fixed part of your pay has grown over the years.
Common Mistakes
Treating a joining bonus as recurring pay, assuming the full target bonus, missing clawback clauses, and comparing a new CTC with your current in-hand figure are the usual errors.
Use the Take-Home Salary Calculator for each offer, the Salary Hike Calculator to see the real increase over your current fixed pay, and the Gratuity Calculator if you expect to stay five years or more.
